Frequently Asked Questions
For members of the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative’s family child care network
What are the benefits of using Pie for Providers?
Pie for Providers (P4P) makes it easy to track and maximize your subsidy revenue each month. It flags children who have low attendance before you lose revenue. It helps you see where you’re at risk of leaving money on the table when you can still take action. It also makes subsidy revenue more predictable and transparent.

How do I sign up for Pie for Providers?
Click here to sign up. After you fill out the form, email your approval letters to team@pieforproviders.com and create an account at app.pieforproviders.com.
How exactly does Pie for Providers work?
P4P uses your check in/out data, and runs it through a local Nebraska rules engine. P4P estimates your earned revenue as the month goes on, and your estimated (predicted) revenue at the end of the month. It also tracks your remaining days, hours and absences for each child based on local subsidy rules.
For Tier 3 providers, P4P pulls attendance information directly from your Wonderschool account. You don’t have to do anything - just log in and check your updated subsidy numbers each day.
Tier 1 and 2 providers can enter their check in/out times to get updated subsidy dashboard estimates.
How does Pie for Providers integrate with Wonderschool?
For Tier 3 providers with Wonderschool accounts, simply use the check in/out function on Wonderschool, and your Pie for Providers dashboard will update automatically. You don’t need to do anything differently. You can log into your Pie for Providers account at any time to see your up-to-date dashboard. This is a separate account from Wonderschool, but they are connected on the back end.
For Tier 1 and 2 providers, you can log into Pie for Providers and add your check in/out times. Then, your dashboard will automatically update.
Would Pie for Providers eliminate the need to do check in on Wonderschool for subsidy-enrolled children?
Pie for Providers works with your Wonderschool account, and it relies on check in/out data to track attendance and revenue for the subsidy. The more you use the Wonderschool check in/out feature, the more accurate and useful your Pie for Providers estimates will be.
Tier 3 providers should use Wonderschool for check in/out. Only use Pie for Providers’ attendance if you are a Tier 1 or 2 provider.
Is our state child care subsidy office aware of Pie for Providers, and do they support it?
We have been in contact with the child care subsidy office regarding Pie for Providers, and they are aware of this pilot project. One of the goals of the pilot is to see how Wonderschool and P4P can be integrated into our subsidy system. There may be some duplication across the three systems in the beginning, but we are hoping to eliminate that through the pilot. Subsidy is very open to utilizing Wonderschool's attendance feature, so providers don't need to do double entry.
How can Pie for Providers identify inaccurate payments?
The P4P system uses Nebraska specific subsidy rules, plus the child authorization, to determine if and when you are claiming more (or fewer) hours and days than allowed. You can compare your subsidy payment each month to your estimates in Pie for Providers to confirm accuracy.
If Pie for Providers is going to be aligned with the Wonderschool platform, will they expect me to choose that subsidy payments go through the Wonderschool platform?
No, P4P does NOT change how you receive reimbursement from subsidy.
How can Pie for Providers assist in sending reminders to dispute payments in a timely manner?
The goal of P4P is to identify mis-claims before they are submitted to subsidy. P4P sends periodic email notifications when your dashboard has been updated, and you can then compare your dashboard estimates to your actual payment.
Will there be a delay in child care subsidy payments using this platform?
No, P4P does NOT change how you receive reimbursement from subsidy.
It is the parents who must inform the subsidy that they need more hours of care. Most of the time they do not do so, and at the end of the authorization period I am told that the hours have already been spent. The subsidy does not pay me those hours. What can Pie for Providers do to solve this problem?
This is a perfect example of how P4P can help. P4P’s dashboard will inform you when you have reached your subsidy limit for a particular child. You will have the option to tell the parent that they have used all of their available billing hours/days and that the child cannot attend until they have updated their subsidy case. The parent can then notify subsidy that they need more available hours.
Many providers and parents do not realize that they have reached the limit of billable hours/days until they process the subsidy billing at the end of the month. P4P will alert you when you have reached that point and can still make changes, so that you don't lose that income.
